ROD LATHIM creates one-of-kind neon sculptures. He incorporates vintage objects with neon. His works use solid neon and sometimes beaded neon which is a rarely seen type of neon that makes a chain of little beads of light that travel through the glass tubes.
A 5th generation from Santa Barbara, CA., Rod creates pieces that evoke stories from viewers which offer a taste of whimsy, color and light. His career has been built around creating and telling stories of the human condition, hope, spiritual journeys, redemption and triumph. He's created commissioned works for private and commercial clients. Two of his works hang in the main lobby of the Boston Quincy Marriott Hotel. He's had numerous solo shows and has exhibited in group shows in galleries in Santa Barbara and Palm Springs. Rod is drawn to the ethereal essence of the light created by neon. "It is really pure energy that's created by gas combusting with electrical current." "It approaches the closest semblance to spiritual energy that on can see with one's eyes in the physical world."
